William Edward "Ed" Roland, Age 83, passed away August 27, 2014. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Lovell and Elizabeth Lee Pike Roland; brothers, Benjamin Forrest and James Wallace Roland. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Virginia Cantrell Roland; daughter Bethany Wynn (Patrick) Brown; granddaughter, Calah Brook (Jonathan) Beckwith; grandson, Anthony Lain (Kadye) Brown; sisters, Mayme Cecil and Edith Stone; several loving nieces and nephews. Ed was inducted in the U.S. Army two years after graduating high school, serving two years,after which he studied briefly at the University of Tennessee Nashville Campus, followed by a one year assignment at Hayes Aircraft Corporation in Birmingham, Alabama. For the remainder of his employment he worked primarily in sales, retiring from AraMark in 1990. He spent most of his retirement years continuing his love of golf having played for many years. He became a member of the Tennessee Travelers Golf Association but because of declining health was forced to quit in 2012. Ed and his family were long time members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he taught Sunday School for several years. Family will receive friends 2-4pm Saturday August 30, 2014 at Cole & Garrett, Hendersonville. Funeral Service 1pm Sunday with visitation 1hr prior. Perry Davis and Mike Servais officiating. Serving as pallbearers; grandson, Tony Brown; grandson in law, Jonathan Beckwith; nephews, Larry Stone, Michael Wayman, Kyle Cantrell, Donald Cantrell, Kory Cantrell and Brad Harris. Interment, New Hope Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family requests that contributions in Ed's memory be made to New Hope Freewill Baptist Church, Goodlettsville or Cumberland Presbyterian Church or The Salvation Army.
